CSWIP Welding Inspection Training
CTS offers internationally recognized CSWIP Welding Inspector certification training programs. These courses are designed to enhance both the theoretical and practical knowledge of professionals working in the welding field and are accredited by CSWIP (Certification Scheme for Welding Inspection Personnel).
Today, many contractors consider the CSWIP certificate as one of the main requirements for employment in this field. This certification not only proves your ability to perform welding tasks safely and in compliance with professional standards but also helps reduce time and costs spent on rework and corrections, supporting on-time project delivery.
By completing this training and obtaining certification, you gain both knowledge and confidence to work as an inspector. The welding technology knowledge acquired during the CSWIP training also helps you develop into a responsible welding coordinator.
Training is delivered in three formats:
- Traditional classroom training
- Online live sessions (via Zoom)
- Self-paced e-learning format (virtual training)
The Welding Inspection training program consists of three levels:
- CSWIP 3.0 Visual Welding Inspector
- CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector
- CSWIP 3.2 Senior Welding Inspector
CSWIP 3.0 Visual Welding Inspector Training
The CSWIP Visual Welding Inspector course is intended for welders, operators, line inspectors, and site supervisors engaged in the visual inspection of welded joints. It is also suitable for personnel responsible for welding quality control and anyone seeking introductory knowledge and formal qualifications in welding inspection.
Entry Requirements
There are no specific entry requirements for this training. However, participants are recommended to have at least 6 months of engineering experience related to welding and 2 years of industrial work experience.
What Will You Learn?
This welding inspection course will provide detailed knowledge of visual inspection procedures, relevant standards, terminology, and definitions. You will also learn about welding processes and defects, weld measurement techniques, practical inspection and reporting, and typical documentation requirements.
For full details on CSWIP certification requirements, please visit www.cswip.com.
At the end of the course, you will be able to:
- Identify different types of welding defects
- Understand basic welding technologies related to visual inspection
- Recognize the importance of documentation in the welding process
- Become familiar with standards and code requirements related to inspection
- Perform inspection of base materials and consumables
- Visually inspect welds, prepare reports, and evaluate results according to acceptance criteria
- Be fully prepared to successfully pass the CSWIP Visual Welding Inspector exam
CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector Training
This training is mainly designed for inspection engineers and supervisory staff. Candidates with little or no experience in welding inspection are recommended to first complete the Visual Welding Inspector certification course.
Throughout the training, participants will work with both theoretical and practical exam questions.
What Will You Gain?
Upon successful completion of the course, you will:
- Understand the factors affecting welding quality in steels
- Identify features of welding processes that influence quality
- Interpret drawings and symbols correctly and follow technical instructions
- Perform inspection and reporting of welds, macrosections, and other mechanical tests
- Evaluate and document welds according to acceptance criteria
- Verify compliance of incoming materials with requirements and assess the impact of deviations on quality
- Be fully prepared to sit the CSWIP Welding Inspector examination
Entry Requirements
A minimum of 3 years’ work experience in the welding field is required for this training.
CSWIP 3.2 Senior Welding Inspector Training
This training is designed for experienced welding inspectors and quality control personnel, especially those preparing for the CSWIP Senior Welding Inspector examination.
Before starting this course, you must already have knowledge equivalent to the CSWIP Welding Inspector level. As the syllabus is extensive, prior preparation and revision are strongly recommended.
What Will You Learn?
This program will cover the following topics in depth:
- Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC)
- Destructive testing and heat treatment processes
- Welding procedures and welding of different materials
- Residual stresses and distortions
- Weldability and welding failures
- Weld repair methods and welding consumables
- Welding symbols and technical documentation
- Nondestructive testing (NDT) methods
- Joint design, specifications, HSLA steels, quenched and tempered steels
- Electricity, arc energy, and heat transfer
The course covers 16 different topics, so having a strong knowledge base and preparation beforehand will give you an advantage. Since the course is based on the CSWIP Welding Inspector level, revising earlier subjects is recommended. Reading one or more welding reference books will also be beneficial for deeper understanding.
Entry Requirements
To enroll in this course, you must meet one of the following conditions:
- Hold a valid CSWIP Welding Inspector certificate within the last 2 years and have performed duties listed in sections 1.2.1, 1.2.2, and 1.2.3 of document WI-6-92, or
- Have at least 5 years of verified industrial experience, confirmed in accordance with section 1.2.3 of document WI-6-92
All candidates must hold a valid CSWIP Welding Inspector certificate.
